1. Raw Material Preparation

Substrate Selection:
The core material of BOPP packaging tape is BOPP film, known for its high transparency, tensile strength, and flexibility. Manufacturers select films with thicknesses ranging from 20 to 50 microns, depending on the tape’s intended use. For instance, standard packaging tapes typically use 25-30 micron films, balancing cost and performance.

Adhesive Formulation:
The adhesive, crucial for the tape’s stickiness, is usually an acrylate-based compound. The production process involves mixing acrylic monomers, initiators, and solvents in precise ratios inside a reactor. By carefully controlling temperature, reaction time, and stirring speed, manufacturers create a high-performance adhesive with optimal tackiness, weather resistance, and stability. Additional agents like plasticizers (for flexibility) and antioxidants (to prevent aging) are incorporated to ensure long-term reliability.

2. Coating Process

Coating Operation:

In gravure coating, an engraved roller transfers the adhesive from microscopic cavities onto the film. The coated film then enters a drying tunnel, where hot air or infrared heating (80–120°C, 1–3 minutes) evaporates solvents and solidifies the adhesive.

3. Slitting & Packaging

Precision Slitting:
The master roll, typically 1,000–2,000 mm wide, is slit into narrower rolls using high-accuracy cutting machines. Tension control ensures tight, even winding, with a width tolerance of ±0.5 mm.

Quality Packaging:
Each roll undergoes visual inspection for defects (e.g., bubbles, scratches, or poor adhesion). Approved tapes are packaged in plastic film (for moisture resistance) or cartons (for retail display), labeled with specifications, branding, and usage instructions.
